Product Reviews: Best Facial Cleansers & Makeup Removers

Hello Ya'll! (I'm not southern by any means other than from Southwestern Ontario in Canada...so I guess I can still say Ya'll - or just cause' it's fun!)

I wanted to post a little blurb about various makeup removers and cleansers I have tried and tested.  They may not be right for you but if you have sensitive skin like me, maybe you will find they are also gentle and keep your skin acne free! (as much as possible!)

First lets talk about the foamy, sudsy, bubbly cleansers!!

Johnson & Johnson Clean & Clear Deep Cleansing Fresh Foam Wash
Rating:
9/10
Dove Cool Moisture (or original Moisture) Foaming Facial Moisturizer
Rating:
8/10

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash - Pink Grapefruit foaming Scrub
Rating:
9.5/10

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash - Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser
Rating:
8/10

After many years of sticking to Johnson & Johnson's Clean & Clear foam cleanser  (both in the original formula and also tried the sensitive) both always worked well. My face was always clear and soft.  I felt like I had outgrown that one so then I tried Dove.  For a while I was happy with how Dove moisturized and your face wasn't dry and tight right after washing it.  Then I finally decided to give Neutrogena a try.  I absolutely love the pink grapefruit (both in the pump cleanser and the one with the cleaning beads) I absolutely prefer the beads, they make your face feel so clean and delicious.  So my very faves would have to be Neutrogena hands down and the tried and true Clean & Clear!  The Neutorgena Oil-Free Acne Wash in foaming scrub washes your makeup off much better than the facial cleanser. I usually have to wash my eyes again, even after I removed eye makeup prior to washing my face.

Now onto MAKEUP REMOVERS....

1. Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
Rating:
10/10!
Love this stuff!!! I hope they never EVER ever discontinue this one.
I find this WAY better than MAC's removers and a lot more gentle and less blinding

2. Neutrogena Makeup Remover cleansing towelettes (I have heard the night calming ones are good, so going to have to give those a whirl next time I purchase towelettes)  I am still working on using these more, they usually make my skin feel greasy after and feel weird not washing my face right after. Anyone else notice this?
Rating:
6.5/10 (or TBD)

3. MAC Gently Off Eye & Lip Makeup Remover  I am on and off about this one.  Some days I like it other days I find I could make an at home product that works better with oil, water, lemon juice and alcohol.... It is also pretty harsh and I find it works on my brows and mostly my eye makeup but not so well for my mascara (that isn't even waterproof)....what are your thoughts on this one?

5/10

My top 10 MAC Lipsticks

Hello lovely lookin' dolls!
This is my very first blog post, so try and be kind. I swear I will get better as they go :)
I know everyone has their own opinion on their very favorite top MAC lipsticks. As this is my first blog I thought I woud try my own and set my wings and fly from here! :) I also have a bunch of non-Mac favourites (I am Canadian so you will notice that I will spell 'colour 'and 'favourite' differently) so I will also add at the end, just for giggles.

So here are my top 10: (not in any particular order)
  1. Pink Popcorn  (lustre) - From the Reel Sexy Collection.  This is a very pretty lavender colour.  It goes on more pink then lavender, on me anyway.  I had such a difficult time finding this one anywhere and funny enough when I came to Australia I found the very last one.  Even though the cost here is redickkkkkk and 3x more than the USA and Canada, I just had to get it and I am very happy I did!

2. Up The Amp (Amplified Creme) - This is my GO-TO lippy when I go to a wedding or a fun night out and want something to just "pop" out.  I personally think it looks great when you wear something simple like a LBD and then wear this and it just makes a look on it's own.  It was my first lipstick that was a bit more out there for me.  It's quite pigmented and a little goes a long way with this one for sure.

 3. High Tea (Lustre) - Beiged pink with pearl.  I actually purchased this one from other blog recommendations (Thanks Tiffany D!) and never actually tried it at the counter.  My lips never look good in nude shades other than Shy Girl so I was quite hesitant to purchase it.  I purchased this from Strawberry.net and when it came in I tried it on and wasn't sure about it at all.  I had a love hate with it.  One time I loved it, another time I was ready to give it away or throw it away.  I started to reach for it more and more, especially to tone down a dramatic eye look.  I do think it is flattering and universally flattering for all skin tones.

4. Creme de la Femme (Frost) - This has been my all time fave for all of 2011 by far.  I am reaching for other colours now for sure, but this one is very flattering on me anyway.  It has very pretty gold flecks in it and I love it! The MAC site says that it is described as "pink laced with gold" and I would say that is correct and fair.  This is my second tube and soon to be third once this one runs out!

5. Lovelorn (Lustre) - Emotive blue pink.  This is another staple if you are a pink lover like me!  This goes on so pretty and is flattering for when I am not so tanned in the winter and when I put on more bronzer or get darker skin in the summer.

6. Please Me (Matte) - muted-rosy-tinted-pink. This was actually a recommendation from a friend of mine when we were chatting randomly about lipsticks and she asked what I was wearing.  She asked if I had ever tried Please Me and I didn't have it.  The next time I went to the counter I asked but unfortunately they were out, or maybe they ended up giving me "pink plaid" which was fine because that one is similar but too matte for me.  I ended up purchasing please me finally in San Fran on a California trip.  When I got home the bottom was cracked and this has never ever happend before.  I noticed it was cracked from the base when I first got it and should have exchanged it right away.  I have tried to bring it back but didn't have the receipt and the counter told me they couldn't exchange unless it was purchased from a counter or a store and for the life of me I couldn't remember and as I travelled I didn't have a receipt, so I ended up keeping that one broken and when I had enough 'B2M" (back 2 Mac) I picked up another.  To summarize, I have had a difficult time with this one but it is very nice and flattering on me and my friend was right!  I hope the next time I fly overseas, this does not happen again :)

7. Fabby (Frost) - Mauve with gold pearl.  This was my very first Mac lipstick ever.  I have gone through so many I can't even remember if this is #5 Fabby or #6 but I am sure there will be #7 after this one.  I don't reach for it now as much as I used to, but I will say that it is very flattering on my lips and looks great with any eye look.  Done up or down, I find this a very wearable day to day colour for sure.

8. Brave Red (Creamsheen) - Bright yellow red.  I was sooooo scared to pick up a red lipstick.  I usually would try the 'Russian Red' lipglass or Benefit Her Glossiness in 'next question please' (not sure if they still make that) so I tried on various reds.  I was going to a gala that had a "superhero" theme so I thought I had to either wear red or my Up The Amp, or maybe combine them!   I asked the girl at the counter what red to try and we tried on a bunch until we got to Brave Red.  This one doesn't really seem like a bright yellow red to me at all.  To me (if I can word this correctly) has such a nice warm berry blood stain lip! LOL well I guess I couldn't describe that too well.  I guess you won't know unless you try it.  It is actually a good starter red for anyone who wants to enter that world and try on reds.  It has decent lasting power, as long as you prime your lips and re-apply after dinner and drinks.  It will stain your lips a little so that is good if you intend to wear this all night long.
9. Naughty Saute (Creamsheen) - Bight pepto pink.  This one is from the Shop Mac collection, limited edition. I loved the packaging so much I kept it and put it in my clear pullout drawers so you can see it through the window.  I tend to try and reach for this one often, more than Speed Dial or Chatterbox but they can both be purchased if you're looking for something similar.  I would say to try and lean towards Speed Dial for that same look of pink. I would even say that Viva Glam Gaga mixed with Speed Dial could even work?  Worth a shot to try out at least!

Last but not least......dum dum dum.....

10. Bombshell! (Frost) - bright rosy pink with shimmer.  This one was a recommendation from my best friends sister-in-law.  I told her about Creme De La Femme I was wearing to a shower and she went and purchased that one.  I saw her again at another event and she told me about Bombshell that the girl told her about.  I had to go see this one and loved it so much I picked it up and wear it going out a lot.  I find it just makes you feel like a bombshell but not in a difficult to wear kind of way- in a very beautiful put together kind of look!  It could also be a nice bridal lip colour, not to mention Creme Cup or Angel.

Ok this was very difficult to choose my top 10 MAC.

Other MAC lip colors I love are:
  • Creme Cup (great bridal colour)
  • Angel (famous Kim Kardashian pink)
  • Viva Glam GAGA (probably in my top 10, forgot about this one!!)
  • Overtime (Pro Longwear)
  • Dress it Up (Pro Longwear)
  • Politely Pink
  • Myth
  • Saint Germain (a pink sister of Up The Amp)
  • Chatterbox
  • Sweetie
  • Hot Gossip (I have in the limited edition Winter collection, but available in the regular line)
Here are the swatches of the top 10....except the #1 starts at my sleeve and #10 on the left by my watch OOPS :)

My other favourite Non-Mac lippies:

  • CHANEL Rouge Allure #85 in COQUETTE
  • CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine #57 in Adventure (love Chanel but hate the scent of them, kind of how I also don't like to wear Nars....the smell)
  • Smashbox in Flawless (Photo Finish Lipstick)
  • Smashbox in Pout (Photo Finish Lipstick)
  • Christian Dior Serum De Rouge in 470  - I love this one and keep it in my purse!  Very soft and reminds me of the Revlon Lip Butters!
  • Revlon Lip Butters in: Cupcake*, Cotton Candy, Strawberry Shortcake*, Peach Parfait, Creme Brule, Berry Smoothie
  • Sephora - Manic Moi
Please feel free to tell me your top colours or what you think!

Ciao Bellas
:)
